Facilitating the personal appearance of

witnesses

This amounts to nothing more than

requesting a witness to travel to

another country to give evidence, which

is done at present. If a witness

consents he will be entitled to the

same protections as prisoners who

consent, as in (d) above.

Taking statements of witnesses

This head of assistance, unlike

obtaining evidence, does not involve

compulsory process and can be provided

at present, with the consent of the

witness concerned.
