Assistance to Hong Kong also is provided on an ad hoc

basis, with varying degrees of co-operation. Whereas the Evidence Ordinance enables Hong Kong to seek evidence from

abroad, and admit it in legal proceedings in Hong Kong, the provision of the evidence by foreign jurisdictions is dependent upon their own legislation and the willingness of

their authorities to assist.

There is usually great difficulty in obtaining

assistance where it requires the exercise of statutory powers
