INTERNATIONAL ASSISTANCE IN CRIMINAL MATTERS

More crimes are being committed that are
international in character, such as drug smuggling and major
fraud, or where evidence, witnesses or suspects are to be
found abroad. Hong Kong at present has only ad hoc and
limited arrangements for assisting or receiving any assistance
internationally with investigation, detection and prosecution
of crimes. More effective, more wide-ranging and precisely
defined means of providing and receiving assistance are
needed.
Clearly defined arrangements will be of benefit when
legal assistance between Hong Kong and the PRC is considered.
