VIETNAMESE BOAT PEOPLE: HMG FINANCE FOR EMERGENCY ACCOMMODATION
IN HONG KONG
1.
We need:
(a)
to secure Treasury agreement to the reallocation of £4.25 million (which the Chief Secretary has already approved) to
new projects identified by the Hong Kong Government;
(b) to resolve the fact that, although the sum approved by the Treasury was £4.25 million, the Governor was authorised by No 10 to announce a figure of £4.5 million.
Recommendation
2.
I recommend that:
(a) the Secretary of State writes to the Chief Secretary on
the lines of the attached draft;
