(ii) Specific aspects of perceived problems

When people were asked to mention specific aspects of their perceived problems, a wide range of answers had been given. The more mentioned spects are summarised in the tables in Annex II. The significant findings are as follows (the percentages are based on the number of respondents who had elaborated on the perceived problems)

49% of the respondents who mentioned "refugee-related problems
t said that
"Vietnamese refugees are a burden to Hong Kong", 28% talked about the "unsatisfactory refugee policies" and 6% mentioned
"objection to the setting up of a detention centre in Sai Kung";
Among those who mentioned "Hong Kong Future", 43% talked about "lack of
confidence", 21% mentioned "brain drain" and 6% showed concern that "democracy is not yet achieved" in Hong Kong;
The percentage of people who mentioned
transport-related problems" and talked about "traffic congestion" remained about the same (68% in this survey cf. 66% in both May/June 1989 and December 1988). 9%
said that there were "too much road work causing inconvenience" (cf. 15% in May/June 1989 and 7% in December 1988);
The percentage of people who mentioned "inadequate provision of public housing" increased from 26% in May/June 1989 to 36%
in this survey;
