The first three mostly mentioned problems by this group of people were "refugee-related problems" (73%), "Hong Kong Future" (56%) and "transport-related problems" (17%). The percentage of people mentioning "refugee-related problems" increased from 59% in May/June 1989 to 73% in this survey. The percentage who mentioned "Hong Kong Future" remained about the same as in May/June 1989 (56% in August 1989 cf. 54% in May/June 1989).

As regards problems that were of most concern to people personally, "refugee-related problems" (46%) remained at the top of the list, followed by "Hong Kong Future" (29%) and "housing-related problems" (7%).
