Among the contacted households, 1567 eligible respondents
(1051 in urban area and 516 in NT) were successfully interviewed, representing a completion rate of 62%.

In a sample of this size, one can say with 95% confidence that the sample percentage would differ from the true percentage by, at most, plus or minus 2.5
percentage points.

Perceived problems in Hong Kong
The respondents were asked whether they thought there were problems in Hong Kong that needed to be solved. If the answer was positive, three additional questions were asked :
(a) "Please tell me the problems that you have
in mind?"

"Which of these problems is the most concerned problem of Hong Kong people?"
70% of the respondents replied that there were problems in Hong Kong that needed to be solved. This is higher than the figure recorded in May/June 1989 (63%).
