1. The following grants to help Hong Kong institutions by providing funds to help send staff members overseas for special training were made:

a. A grant of HK$83,500 available over 3 years to the Chinese University of Hong Kong to assist in sending members of the staff of its Business School for special courses abroad. b. A grant to Hong Kong Polytechnic to cover part of the cost of sending Mr. William Wan, a member of the Polytechnic staff, to attend a short specialised course at Strathclyde University; a grant of £1,350 was authorised.

2. East Asian History of Science Library

Bearing in mind the Founder's interest in Chinese science the Trustees decided to make a once-off donation of £250,000 to the endowment of the East Asian History of Science Library established by Dr. Joseph Needham in Cambridge on the understanding that no part of the donation would be used for building. Subsequently, following a suggestion from Dr. Needham, a plaque commemorating Mr. Croucher as a generous benefactor was prepared and displayed in a special room in the Library bearing his name. (The plaque was unveiled by the Chairman in the presence of the other Trustees and Dr. Needham on 29th July, 1982).
