regarding the activities of the Foundation and procedure for applications.
Croucher Studentships, Scholarships and Fellowships are open only to ethnic Chinese normally resident in Hong Kong to which those holding awards overseas are expected subsequently to return.
Studentships
C
roucher Studentships are awarded on the recommendation of the Vice-Chancellors of the University of Hong Kong and the Chinese University of Hong Kong, from whom further particulars may be obtained. Studentships are intended for students about to graduate with a 1st Class Honours Bachelor degree in order that they may proceed to a higher degree in Hong Kong and are normally tenable for 2 years. As from 1st October 1984 they carry a stipend of HK$35,000 p.a. plus all necessary fees. In addition, a sum of HK$3,000 is available to the Department in which the Student works for special research expenditure. Holders of Studentships may undertake not more than 6 hours teaching per week and they receive on taking up their Studentship a grant of HK$1,000 for books.
Scholarships
Scholarships are awarded to students to pursue post-graduate study and research at pre- doctoral level in the United Kingdom or elsewhere in the Commonwealth. Full particulars and forms of application may be obtained from
a. The Secretary, Croucher Foundation, 534-5 Star House, Salisbury Road, Kowloon in the
case of applicants currently residing in Hong Kong;
b. The Fellowship Adviser, Croucher Foundation, Nuffield Lodge, Regent's Park, London
NW1 4RS in the case of applicants currently resident in the United Kingdom. Scholarships are awarded for 1 year in the first instance and are renewable on receipt of a satisfactory report from the student's supervisor; the normal period of tenure is 3 years. From 1st October 1984 Scholarships carry a stipend of £3,500 p.a. (or the equivalent in other Commonwealth countries) plus all necessary fees. In the United Kingdom, students working in the London area receive an additional £250 London weighting allowance. All Scholars receive, in addition, a grant of £100 for books, and Hong Kong applicants receive an allowance of £500 for clothing on taking up their award and a sum of up to £150 for typing etc of Ph.D. theses will be granted on application; return air travel to the chosen centre for study and research is paid by the Foundation. In addition, Scholars may receive financial assistance for attendance at seminars etc. at the discretion of the Trustees. Al- though Scholarships do not carry a marriage allowance, an allowance of £250 p.a. is paid for each dependent child on application.
Fellowships
Fellowships normally of 2 years' duration - are awarded at post-doctoral level (or the equivalent level of experience in the medical field). As in the case of Scholarships, awards are made both in Hong Kong and the United Kingdom. As from 1st October 1984 they carry a stipend of £6,000 p.a. (or equivalent) plus all necessary fees. Other allowances are similar to those for Scholars but both marriage and dependent children allowances are paid.
Other Awards

Applications for other awards made by the Foundation grants for research, departmental development, staff training, seminars, workshops and the like should be addressed to the Director, Croucher Foundation, 534-5 Star House, Salisbury Road, Kowloon, from whom all particulars may be obtained. These awards are normally made only with the approval of a Hong Kong university, polytechnic or other recognised institution of higher education and should be submitted through the institution concerned.
