My Government have continued their vigorous efforts to combat
international terrorism. They have signed, subject to
ratification, a new United Nations Convention against Illicit
Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances. They have
concluded reciprocal agreements or arrangements with Switzerland,
Spain and Bermuda to combat trafficking in drugs.
My Government, together with our Western partners, have taken
measures to express their concern at the suppression of the
democracy movement in China. They have worked to restore
confidence in Hong Kong, building on the foundation of the
Sino-British Joint Declaration. My Government have stood by
their commitment to the people of the Falkland Islands, while
continuing to seek more normal relations with Argentina.
An Act has been passed to prohibit Antarctic mineral resources
activities other than duly authorised prospecting activities.
