Asked
about
the
possibility
of
mandatory
repatriation
to Vietnam for those boat people not deemed to be
genuine refugees, Congressman Solarz said he hoped they would be
given
the opportunity
to decide to return voluntarily having
decided it was in their best interests to do so.
He added: "It would be unfortunate if the day after
their appeals against non-refugee status were denied they were
dragged kicking and screaming on to boats or aircraft.
"We are dealing with human lives here and should
show some human compassion.
