formation of the first SARG.
Annex I and the draft NPC resolution on the formation of the
first SARG: Three changes were made to enable Hong Kong delegates
to the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, as in the
April draft, to be represented on the election committee for the
Chief Executive.
Annex III: The "Electoral Law of the NPC and the People's
Congresses at Various Levels of the PRC "was deleted from the list
of nationwide laws applicable in the SAR. In addition all the short-listed designs for the SAR flag were rejected.
6. Li Hou stressed to reporters after the meeting that the
political provisions in the draft could still be amended further.
He asked all people in Hong Kong to make an effort to co-ordinate
their views and to narrow down their differences. The BLDC would
then find it easier to make a decision in future deliberations on
the text.
There were calls from the liberal lobby during the meeting for an opinion poll to be held in Hong Kong after the revised text of
the Basic Law is published. Senior officials were cautious about the idea, but have stated that there will be a consultation period on the revised text, of a similar length to the first one.
