Will do all we can to ensure Hong Kong remains a thriving and
dynamic place where people will wish to live, work and make their
lives.
(c) Passports for Businessmen
UK not losing out on talent and entrepreneurs from Hong Kong:
arrangements exist to permit businessmen from anywhere in the world
to enter Britain and settle here under certain conditions.
These terms broadly as favourable as those in other countries
which have traditionally attracted businessmen from Hong Kong, such
as Australia, Canada and United States.
We are currently preparing, with Home Office, detailed guidance
notes for businessmen.
(d) Passports for Professionals and well qualified Young People
Immigration rules also allow for talented and experienced people
to come here as employees. Prospective employer has to apply for
work permit for such persons and to show that post offered is one
requiring high level of skill and experience and for which no
resident labour is available. After admission such employees can qualify for settlement and citizenship.
(e) Passports for Civil Servants
When 1981 British Nationality Act was going through Parliament, we explained that long-serving Crown servants in Dependent Territories could not expect British citizenship as automatic reward but that citizenship would be granted sparingly to those who had
given particularly deserving service. Each case examined on its
merits.
