May I introduce myself as the person who looks after the interests here in the U.K. and in Europe of Mr. Li Ka-shing who is the largest of the Hong Kong Chinese entrepreneurs. He controls somewhere over 15% of the capitalisation of the Hong Kong stock market. On his last two visits here he was received by both the Prime Minister and Foreign and Commonwealth Secretary and was awarded the CBE in 1988. David Gillmore will of course be able to give you further details about him.
I shall be going out to Hong Kong to see Mr. Li and others at the end of October and I would very much appreciate the opportunity to exchange views with you before I go. It seems to me particularly important that we keep people like K.S. Li "on side" if we possibly can and that means keeping him up to date with thinking in London.
I am due to leave London on October 22nd. Would you care to come to lunch here informally before then? If you cannot manage that perhaps we could have a drink together one evening or I could call on you at the Office or in the House.
I much look forward to meeting you. If I may say so I thought your visit to Hong Kong the other day was a distinct success.
