be going to Hong Kong before the end of the year under the sponsored visits programme. Mr Maude thought this programme was valuable and that Hong Kong should try and garner as much support as possible for the actions that were necessary on VBP's. He thought that a similar
programme for American senators and press would also be very useful
since the Americans appeared to misunderstand the situation in Hong
Kong.
9. Mr Yaxley extended an invitation for Mr Maude to visit the Hong Kong government office and meet with some of the offices there and also Hong Kong personnel in the Trade Development Council and
Cathy Pacific, perhaps for a lunch. Mr Maude said that he would be delighted to accept such an invitation.
