Having just returned from my business travels to Europe, the United States and Japan, I am writing to thank you for seeing me during my recent visit to London and for your kind letter of 26th September which awaited my return. It was a privilege and pleasure to meet you, and I valued the opportunity of discussing with you some of the topics which now dominate the thoughts of Hong Kong people. As I was away from Hong Kong at the time of your visit here, I was especially appreciative of your receiving me at the Foreign Office so soon after your return to London and in view of your very busy schedule.
I am very glad to know that you are planning a return visit to Hong Kong next year, and I hope to be here to welcome you. I also hope that you and your Wife may be able to join Penny and me for luncheon or dinner during one of our future visits to London.
