PERSONALITY
SOLON
Governor of Hong Kong since April 1987. Born 1935. Educated
Trinity College, Glenalmond, Perthshire and Keble College, Oxford.
Commissioned Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment) 1953. Joined
Foreign Service 1958. Assigned to full-time Chinese language studies at Hong Kong University 1960. Peking 1963. Resigned and
became Executive Editor of China Quarterly 1968. Rejoined Diplomatic Service in 1974. Political Adviser Hong Kong 1977. Head
of Southern European Department, FCO 1981. Assistant Under
Secretary of State (Asia) FCO 1984. Married to Natasha, two sons.

Chief Justice since 14 March 1988.
and
Born in China on 30 June 1929. He was educated at Soochow
University Law School, Shanghai; University College, London,
Gray's Inn. After being admitted as a Barrister in London in 1954,
he joined the Hong Kong Government as a Magistrate in 1956.
Subsequently, he became a Senior Magistrate in 1963, a District
Judge in 1968, a Judge of the High Court in 1975, a Justice of
Appeal in 1980 and a Vice-President of the Appeal Court in 1987. he
is married with two sons.
Sir T L Yang shows a wide interest in matters outside his work and
has taken part in a variety of community and charitable activities.
He has headed a number of committees of inquiry and was Chairman of
the University and Polytechnic Grants Committee from 1981-4.
