The following overseas visits by the Secretary of State were confirmed or recommended for 1989/90.

(a) USA, Mexico, Jamaica, as already agreed, will take place in September.
(b)
Greece and Israel, dates in November are under consideration.
(c)
Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, GDR, visit postponed from July. This tour might be fitted in during this Autumn or early in the New Year outside a Recess. Bulgaria might have to be omitted unless the problem of Turkish refugees/ expellees has been resolved.
(d) Nigeria/Senegal in Christmas Recess 1989/90. Dates already agreed.
(e) Washington in February (dates provisionally suggested 12/13 or 26/27). This is an operational necessity. might be combined with a visit to Canada for a meeting wi Mr Joe Clark.
(f) Easter Recess 1990: either Japan/Korea (although it might be desirable to go earlier, depending on the Diet Session on the Budget) or Indonesia/Thailand.
