VISIT OF THE SECRETARY OF STATE TO HONG KONG 2-4 JULY: SUPPORT STAFF
1. In our teleletter of 9 June about administrative requirements, we asked Hong Kong whether they needed the assistance of a Conference Officer during the above visit.
2.
In a reply the APS to the Governor said that it would be helpful if a Conference Officer could be in Hong Kong during the advance visit: even better if she could join the delegation for the Secretary of State's visit.
3. We would not in fact normally send a Conference Officer when the Secretary of State is visiting only one country and travelling out and back by commercial flights (eg UNGA New York). In addition we shall not be responsible for administrative arrangements for the Press, who are making their own travel arrangements. Although News Department expect Mr Burns and Miss Rea to be very busy with the Press during this visit and would find it useful to have a Conference Officer in the delegation, they do not feel it is essential.
4.
In the light of the above I should be grateful to know whether you would wish a Conference Officer to be included in the delegation for the Secretary of State's visit to Hong Kong.
If so, the Conference Officer would be Miss Agnew.
