Dear Minister,
BY FAX (01-270 2833)
A delegation from the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce will visit London in order to meet with members of the Confederation of British Industry from 2:30 to 5:00 pm on Monday 11th September, and with members of the Institute of Directors from 8:30 to 10:00 am on Tuesday 12th September 1989. The purpose of these meetings will be to discuss the situation in Hong Kong in the aftermath of 4th June, primarily from a business orientation. would very much value an opportunity for a similar brief discussion with you, if this were possible, at any other time on either 11th or 12th September, except during lunch time on Monday when we shall be joining a number of your colleagues from the House of Commons.
The Chamber is Hong Kong's premier business organisation with a role akin to that of the Confederation of British Industry in the United Kingdom. Our 2,700 member companies include the largest and most prestigious business houses in Hong Kong. Prominent amongst our membership are all the major British companies and those with strong British affiliations. I am attaching a list of the members of our delegation.
I am
I do hope that it will be possible to meet you. also trying to arrange a meeting with Mr John Major.
With best wishes to you in your new responsibilities.
Yours sincerely,
