Duty Visit to the United Kingdom

I have looked at General Regulation 763 (2) after being informed by Finance Branch of a duty visit to the U.K. (please refer to Annexes I & II attached). From the nature of the visit and the fact that the Hong Kong Government in London is also notified according to the same regulations, I doubt there is any need to inform the Hong Kong Depart- ment of FCO of such visits. As a cross reference, you may see that Civil Service Regulation 1179 (4) only requires notification to the Hong Kong Government Office in London (please refer to Annex III attached). To avoid adding unnecessary workload to the Hong Kong Department would it be sensible to revise GR 763 (2) so that only visits by Heads or Deputy Heads of Branches/Departments warrants notification to it? You may wish to consult Mr Robert Footman, in Hong Kong Department, about this.
