HONG KONG: CALL ON THE PRIME MINISTER BY DAME LYDIA DUNN

Thank you for your letter of 15 September about the request from Dame Lydia Dunn for a meeting with the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister would be happy to see her and we have provisionally set aside time at 1600 on Tuesday 3 October.

Since the request came in a personal letter to me I would like to reply myself, if you see no objection. Perhaps the following could go via the Governor's office:

"Dear Lydia,

Thank you very much for your letter of 3 September. The Prime Minister will stress in her speeches in Tokyo to the need for Japan to give every possible support to Hong Kong. She will, I am sure, follow your helpful suggestions.

You wondered whether it might be possible to see the Prime Minister during your next visit to London. As you say early October is not a particularly easy time but the Prime Minister would very much like to see you. Could you manage 1600 on Tuesday 3 October? I am afraid that is just about the only time that we can offer. I very much hope it will be

convenient.

With every good wish to you and Michael,

Yours sincerely,

Charles".
