Again on the heavy investment side, Hong Kong

International Terminals went to the market for a

US$1.35 billion loan for the construction of two

new container terminals. The loan syndicate

brought together Hong Kong, American and Japanese

financiers. The interest rates were very fine.

The loan period extends beyond 1997 and the loan

paper was oversubscribed on issue.

These are only the largest examples of a steady stream of

foreign investment in Hong Kong. There are numerous others

to show that, far from losing its appeal, Hong Kong

continues to attract foreign firms from all around the

globe. Amongst those putting new manufacturing investment

in Hong Kong since June 4 are:

Prominent amongst those who have recently set up regional

headquarters in Hong Kong is Walt Disney. Others include

Hayes Microcomputers (USA), who relocated from Singapore,

and McDonnel Douglas (USA), who moved from Shanghai.
