MOTIONS.
(1) CHINA
This Union Recognises:
1. The pro-democracy movement in China
2. That students and worker had been demonstrating peacefully in
cities throughout China for seven weeks before June 4th.
3. The massacre and injury of thousands of unarmed people by the
military in Tiananmen Square and surrounding streets
4. The lack of positive response from the British Government over that
situation
5. The memorial events of Sept 12th, 100 days after the massacre of
innocent civilians on June 4th.
6. The 40th Anniversary of the founding of Peoples' Republic of China
celebrated in China celebrated in Beijing on October 1st.
7. The urgent need to build solidarity with the students and workers in
China who suffered the brutal massacre in Tiananmen Square and are facing severe repression which has so far included summary executions, systematic torture and the arrest of at least 30,000 political prisoners.
8. The appalling decision of the All China federation of Trade Unions to
refuse to condemn the massacre and repression.
9. The urgent requirement of Chinese students in Britain for blanket
visas, work permits and funding for whose grants have been cut off by the Chinese Government.
10. The rights of Hong Kong residents and Chinese refugees to come and
live in Britain if they choose to do so.
