All dependants of US Government employees ordered on 7 June to leave China (total 258 people). All US citizens strongly urged to leave (less than 5,000 remain in China; 400-500 in Peking).

Canadians

20 essential Embassy staff remaining.

Announced plans to carry out complete evacuation of Embassy dependants and citizens on 6 June.

Australia

Quantas plane chartered on 6 June to evacuate non-essential Embassy staff and dependants. Other citizens advised to leave as

soon as possible by normal commercial means.

Japan

Embassy maintained at near normal strength. (On 7 June advised all residents, except Embassy staff, and visitors to leave Peking. A few non-essential Embassy staff subsequently evacuated.)

United Nations

30 essential staff remaining to man the various UN agencies in

China (but some

(but some may go to Hong Kong later individually).

119 staff and dependants evacuated to Hong Kong on 7 June

(others have left for Bangkok).
