Says the troops came to Peking "in accordance with the strong wishes of the masses" to quickly curb the present turmoil which is getting more and more serious. He says the questions raised by the masses should be settled through democratic and legal means including consultations. (China Daily 30.5.89). Peking Television reports that Peng Zhen said "the PRC is led by the working class, not the bourgeoisie... the act of promoting bourgeois liberalisation is unconstitutional."
