Clerk
My Lords, I made clear the shock and outrage of the Government
at recent events in China in my statement to the House on 6 June.
Our concern is all the greater because of our responsibility for
Hong Kong. Our commitment to a secure, stable and prosperous
future for the territory is as strong as ever. We look to the
Chinese Government to stand by their obligations under the Joint
Declaration in the same way.
