This may not be strictly comparing like with like. The estimated contribution to the national income from Guangdong is probably an under-estimate of the actual size of its economy for several reasons; first, services will not have been adequately taken into account; second, many transactions in Guangdong's rural sector are not expressed in monetary terms and, therefore, would be unrecorded or under-recorded; and third, there is certainly a large underground economy in Guangdong.
