DIVISION II
SHI JICHENG
(
), COUNSELLOR (AND DIVISION CHIEF?)
Succeeded Lin Zhiying in November 1988, but had already spent several months in the HKMAO reading himself in.
Born in 1933 and educated at Francis Xavier College, Shanghai
where his father taught. Served in Korean War (probably military intelligence), Yugoslavia and the UN in New York (where he was an expert on disarmament). Returned early
from New York in 1984 to look after a mentally ill daughter.
Has another daughter currently at university.
Speaks Serbo-Croat and fluent idiomatic English. Shi is clearly intelligent with a good sense of humour and frank to the point of indiscretion. He is a useful interlocutor who frequently is willing to reveal the background to Chinese thinking.
