Section 1: The Chief Executive
Article 43
The Chief Executive of the Hong Kong SAR is the head of the Hong Kong SAR and represents the Region.
The Chief Executive of the Hong Kong SAR shall be accountable to the CPG and the Hong Kong SAR in accordance with the provisions of this Law.
Article 44
The Chief Executive of the Hong Kong SAR shall be a Chinese national of no less then 40 years of age who is a
permanent resident of the Region and has ordinarily resided in Hong Kong for a continuous period of 20 years.
Article 45
The Chief Executive of the Hong Kong SAR shall be selected by election or through consultations held locally and be appointed by the CPG.
The method for selecting the Chief Executive shall be prescribed in the light of the actual situation in the
Hong Kong SAR and in accordance with the princip le of gradual and orderly progress with the ultimate objective of electing the Chief Executive by universal suffrage.
The specific method for selecting the Chief Executive is prescribed in Annex
