Ve did later, and this followed the events of 4
June, bave one incident in which a certain hooligan
alement got involved and that was dealt with very quickly
and very effectively by the police.
And the other point I would like to make is that
throughout this the Royal Hong Kong Palice Force have
behaved with remarkable skill and won themselves great
credit in Hong, well deserved credit both in handling
peaceful demonstrations and in handling one incident that
got out of control for a short time.
To take the history of the last few weeks forward,
what happened in Peking on 4 June was watched in Hong Kong
with what one can only describe as total horror. Here
people have seen what happened on their television
screena, it was the same for us in Hong Kong. Ve saw
those events every day, every hour, reported with great
accuracy and faithfulness from Peking, and all of us
Hong Kong were horrified by what we saw.

appalling events and the exitional effect it has had on
Hong Kong, There can be no doubt that it has shaken
confidence in Hong Kong, it could hardly do otherwise.
