With the increase in Government grant for 1989/90 the Council will expand its operations in China by:

establishing British Studies Courses in Peking and Canton to improve understanding of modern Britain in tertiary level teachers.

setting up 5 information centres in provincial cities to improve access to English Language teaching material and to information on Britain, and opportunities in British education.

increasing the number of links between British and Chinese universities and polytechnics.

The Council will also negotiate with the Chinese the opening in Hong Kong of an office to cover South China and to increase Council activities in the region.
