particularly road, port and airport facilities, to meet new
demands.
Largescale land reclamations will be needed to allow the expansion of Hong Kong's port and a new airport possibly, in the west of the territory. There will also need to be reclamations to assist in urban renewal schemes. Studies for some of these are underway, for example the Port and Airport Development Strategy due for completion at the end of this year; and a Comprehensive Transport Study designed to maintain acceptable levels of passenger and freight capability up to 2001.
The Hong Kong Government are also determined to improve the quality of life in Hong Kong and are planning largescale investment in new facilities to combat pollution in all its forms. Recreational and cultural facilities are also being expanded.
All of these plans indicate that Hong Kong will continue to develop economically and socially to remain one of Asia's leading modern cites with a high standard of living and state-of-the-art
leisure facilities.
