Have briefed Chinese Government on all aspects of problem. are naturally concerned. Like us they would like problem to be resolved as soon as possible.
They
China has important role to play too. Most boat people call in at points along Chinese coast on their way to Hong Kong. Hope Chinese authorities will do all they can to encourage them not to proceed with their journey to Hong Kong.

Have held two rounds of talks with Vietnamese officials. twice at Ministerial level. Agreed comprehensive arrangements were needed covering all those not considered refugees.
INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE
- Welcome plans for international conference on problem of boat people and Indo Chinese refugees in South East Asia.
- British Government will be represented at ministerial level at such a conference. No final decision on who would attend.
