Future of Hong Kong Government Records
Our proposed approach to Lord Chancellor's Department on the possibility of a blanket approval covering HKG records has received a favorable reaction. I have now been asked to prepare an information paper for ExCo. Would you let me know where we are at with Duncan's paper to LCD. Will he still be handling this as Deputy
Keeper.
I am enclosing sample pages from our microfiche listing which you might pass on to Duncan for information. We have not finalised the format. This is very much a working document reflecting the order in which records are received by us from the reviewing Branch. But the essentials are there.

We are planning to create a computerised database for these records and to list directly on to the computer. This will give us the capacity to generate an inventory (shelf list) and reports (lists) by subject, series, classification, etc. The requirement we discussed in London for separate lists of 'open' and 'sensitive' fiches should be readily met.
