中华人民共和国国家档案局
affairs of our two countries, You suggested that this problem be settled through diplomatic channels with
joint efforts from both sides and you believed that
under the present friendly relations of our two nations this issue should be easily solved.
However, the top priority of the matter is: to have these records accessable to readers, the Public Records Offices of Britain is willing to provide us a set of microfilms of these records free of charge before next March on condition that these records be only used by readers and microfilmed for that purpose if necessary, instead of public publication for the commercial purpose.
I expressed that I fully appreciated that and before the final settlement of this problem, we would like to have the microfilms first so that they could be accessed by readers and shall not be used for commercial purpose. I'would express once again that we are ready to receive the micrefilms. before next March.
At the same time I would extend my thanks to Mr. Bousso, UNESCO and ICA for their assistance and support. Owing to their kindness, this problem has brought about some satisfactory results.
I'd like to thank you very much for your kind cooperation
duing our stay in Britain. Please convey our best regards
to Mr. Thomas for his kind arrangement of our visit.
Yours Faithfully
