Record Keeping in Hong Kong

Public records include documents, of any nature or

description, which have been produced or received by any

agency of Government in the conduct of its official

business and which have been preserved in official custody

In general, such records run

for further reference.

through three stages in their life :

(a) the first stage is the one in which records

are being used frequently in the course of

current activities.

Records in this stage

are often described as 'current' or 'active';

(b)

the second stage is the one in which records

have ceased to be used frequently in the

course of current activities, but nonetheless

retain

occasional

administrative

use.

Records in this stage are often described as

'non-current', 'intermediate' or 'inactive';
