NOTE S

In the United States in 1948

Dr Kinsey's studies led him to

conclude that 4% of adult men

are exclusively homosexual

throughout their lives after the

onset of adolescence. He also

found evidence to suggest that

10% of the male population are

more or less exclusively

homosexual for at least 3 years

between the ages of 16 and 65

and that 37% of the total male

population have at least some

overt homosexual experience

between adolescence and old

age. The Law Reform Commission

concluded (para. 527 of the

Report on Laws Governing

Homosexual Conduct) that it

would be realistic to expert

between 5% and 10% of the male

population to be homosexual,

that is, at June 1987 figures,

between 145,000 and 290,000 men.
