I am now able to let you know in confidence that
Mr Justice Barker has now submitted his resignation to
the Governor from 1 January 1989. This has been accepted
and Mr Justice Barker will be assigned to non-judicial
duties in the interim. An announcement to this effect
will be made in Hong Kong very shortly.
