The Secretary of State has written to Lord Benson- blo
as proposed.
He was quite surprised to see from the papers that the Chief Justice has already twice declined to accept
Mr Justice Barker's resignation. He wonders whether this was entirely wise in the circumstances.
I know that you have been in touch with the Lord Chancellor's Department about all this. The Secretary of State would like to have, please, before the meeting with Sir David Wilson, a personal view from the Lord Chancellor on the merits of the case.
