Mr Balji, Is Gomez and Mr Odindo are in Britain under the Wolfson Press Fellowship Scheme, which enables established Commonwealth journalists to undertake research on a subject of their choosing for a period of three months at Wolfson College, Cambridge. They will be in Northern Ireland as guests of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office from 7 - 10 March, carrying out a programme arranged for them by the Central Office of Information and the Northern Ireland Information Service. They will be looking in particular at the political situation in Belfast, and hope to follow this with a private visit to Dublin.

Mr BALJI is 39 and, like many previous Volfson Fellows, works for The Straits Times, a pro-establishment daily paper with a circulation of 290,000. He is the deputy editor. The subject of his research at Wolfson College is the role of the labour unions in Britain. Mr Balji is a vegetarian.
Ms GOMEZ is 33 and is a freelance news reporter, currently working for Biddulph Asia News Services, At Volfson College she is studying the influence of religion (including the religions of ethnic minority communities) in British politics.
Nr ODINDO is 29 and has recently become the deputy chief sub-editor of the Daily Nation, a liberal newspaper with a circulation of 200,000. He has a degree in education and this is his first visit to Europe. His research topic is the coverage of African affairs by the British press.
