1. I submit a draft reply from Lord Glenarthur to Lord MacLehose's letter of 18 April about his proposed participation in the Oxford Colonial Archives Project. HKD
concur.
2. We are aware of the project which is aimed at securing research materials for the study of Hong Kong in Great Britain. It is succinctly described in Mr Tsang's letter of 5 January to Mr Dalton, a former Foreign Office official who has also sought our advice about participation. We advised him on the lines incorporated in the draft to Lord MacLehose. In the event Mr Dalton decided to decline as he feared so much of the work on which he had been engaged (as "Political Adviser" 1953 to 1956) would have been confidential and have had to be excluded from the interview.
