first ennobled man in Hongkong, the man who got his company, China Light and Power Company Ltd, to spend more than any other company in the history of Hongkong within the period of one year -- and he spent most of it in Great Britain.

Having spent the money, Mr Lawrence Kadoorie received the honour of being the First Lord of

Kowloon.

saga but it has come to stand for all that is horrible in Hongkong.

Yet not all Government ser-

vants who are cognizant of what is happening condone the acts of perfidy and treachery: Some have even gone on record as chastising those who have done wrong in the offices in which they serve.

OMELCO has been branded

a 'parrot' for its lack of action in the Synagogue Affair, and some

members of the AAB have not

been loath to voice openly their displeasure at the non-action taken by that largely appointed body which appears to be doing nothing more than paying lip service when it suits the powers

To oil the wheels in the next world, some people do good deeds in this one or leave behind them deeds which may as a monument to their munificence.

And it is monuments, and their preservation or disposal, on which the reports of the next few weeks will attempt to

focus.

Unfortunately, the Jews of Hongkong, as a body, will be the losers due to their apathetic approach, the phlegmatism of those within the community who are trying to gain the favour of The Lord Kadoorie rather than think for the community, and, of course, The Lord Kadoorie, with his known whims and prejudices and obstinacy, all of which are a matter of record and delight to the legal profession.

CORRECTION SECTION

TARGET is concerned that members of the staff of Tian An China Investment Company Ltd may have been a little confused about the companies with which Tian An had joint ventures.

It appears that Tian An does not have a joint venture in the shape of SIIC Estates Company Ltd with Tian Lau Ve-Tsin Chemical Industries (Hongkong) Ltd at all, but rather with Tien Chu Ve Tsin Chemical Industries (Hongkong) Ltd.

TARGET would also like to apologize to Tien Chu for any identity crisis we may have unintentionally provoked.
