VIETNAMESE BOAT PEOPLE IN HONG KONG: PROPOSED CALL ON LORD

GLENARTHUR BY REPRESENTATIVES OF REFUGEE ORGANISATIONS

Problem

1.

has

Dr Martin Barber, Director of the British Refugee Council, written to me on behalf of three national organisations representing refugees from Vietnam in this country, requesting an early meeting with either the Secretary of State or Lord Glenarthur for

representatives of the three organisations.

Recommendation

2. I recommend that Lord Glenarthur agree to meet the

representatives. If he is content I will write to Dr Barber

suggesting that he contact you to find a date.

Argument

3. The three national organisations concerned are the Vietnam

Refugee National Council, the National Indo-China Association and

the National Federation of Vietnam Refugee Chinese Associations. have no reason to doubt the integrity of any these organisations; the Vietnam Refugee National Council and the National Indo-China

Association had a hand in drawing up the thoughtful if unrealistic
