We shall now enter into immediate consultations with the other resettlement Governments and United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. We shall make clear that there must be a genuine
international effort. We shall look to other governments to state clearly their readiness to match what we intend to do by accepting substantial additional numbers of Vietnamese refugees from Hong Kong. We hope that they will respond generously as they have done
in the past.
Depending on the response that we receive, and a solution to the problem of pressure on housing resources in certain areas of the United Kingdom, we shall be ready to go ahead with our
