Resettlement of Vietnamese Boat People
Thank you for your letter of 21 December about Mr Eggar's speech in the adjournment debate on Vietnamese boat people.
Mr Eggar duly made the statement yesterday in the terms you suggested. We are thus now in a position to let you have a draft reply to the letter which Miss Lydia Dunn wrote to the Prime Minister and to other Members of Parliament on 17 November on behalf of all the members of the Executive and Legislative Councils in Hong Kong.
The enclosed draft is largely self-explanatory. On the central issue of resettlement, it follows the line of Mr Eggar's statement, and encloses the full text of the relevant passage.
