Although we are encouraged at the large number of applicants who have been interviewed under the new procedures, unfortunately only about half of the applicants whom our interviewers have
approved have left Vietnam. A large number of those who have been approved but who have not yet departed are waiting for the Vietnamese authorities to manifest them for flights out of
Vietnam. Others are waiting for their medical clearances, and some are waiting for the Vietnamese authorities to issue their
exit documentation. We understand that other refugee receiving countries are experiencing similar delays in arranging for departure of approved applicants.
