This Whats (lead t сел -velop ite Levelt in the Cay I understand that the long defunct All Party Committee Mm. for Refugees in the House was revived with a meeting earlier this week. The new Chairman is Mr Alastair Goodlad and Lord Ennals and Sir Bernard Braine are the co-Chairmen. Among others involved are Mr Nicholas Soames and Mr Frank Fields.

2. The speaker was the London representative of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (Mr Volfing) and he tells me that the principle interest of the Committee was the Hong Kong refugee problem and the possibility of repatriation to Vietnam. There was apparently some criticism voiced of the low figures (156) for 1987 for the Hong Kong refugees actually going to the UK.

The speaker at the next meeting of the group will be Mr Dewey, a Deputy to UNHCR, when he visits London in March

(Mr Eggar is lunching with Mr Dewey on 15 March).
