6. On the question of preparation of refugees for life in the West after resettlement, our enquiries have produced some useful information about the training programmes available in the camps and the special orientation and integration programmes organised by resettlement countries for their refugees intake. The information has been passed to your officials. These programmes form an important part of the resettlement process and I believe that in putting our case to Cabinet it would be right to give this aspect the weight it clearly merits. As you know, our proposal includes a category of refugees selected on the basis of skills, but I believe that the question of adequate preparation for resettlement is very relevant to all our intake.
7. As I said on 22 June, I do not think we should wait too long after the change of policy before making a move or resettlement. I suggest that our officials should now be asked as a matter of urgency to prepare a joint minute to the Prime Minister and colleagues seeking approval for a new commitment on the lines I have proposed.
