We consulted HKD in February this year about Kuala Lumpur's post objectives for 1988. We agreed that we should ask Kuala Lumpur to include among their political objectives a reference to consultation with the Malaysians about the problem of Vietnamese boat people.
2. The post subsequently put forward a draft form of words. However, re-reading the papers, I realised that it was never cleared with you. I would therefore be grateful if you could confirm that you are content with the following:
"Objective:
Persuade Malaysians to participate in international efforts to solve the problem of Vietnamese boat people.
Output measure:
Regular contact with the MFA, Task Force VII and UNHCR.
